Orientation and Induction Class of 2024

The Department of Computing and Informatics takes this early opportunity to congratulate and welcome the students who have been admitted into the BSc in Computer Science programme of the University of Nairobi. 

The department conducts a five-session orientation and induction programme whose objectives includes: 

  • Acquaint the students with the University environment, structures and processes
  • Assist the students adjust to the new life at the University
  • Introduce the students to faculty and support staff
  • Provide an overview of BSc in Computer Science
  • Familiarize the students with the available teaching learning and resources

 

The 2024 orientation and induction programme of first year students at the Department of Computing and Informatics was conducted over five sessions, each with a focus on a particular aspect of student life on campus.

Session 1: Knowing your University: Overview of the University, Role of the student in their own success, overview of the BSc CS program and skill sets to be developed over the 4 years, teaching and teaching facilities

Session 2: University Systems: Hands-on session on course registration, teaching and learning resources, university systems 

Session 3: The Curriculum:  Requirements, Class Attendance, Coursework, Examination, Academic Integrity and other University Policies 

Session 4: Student Life: Campus Life, Clubs, Student Activities 

Session 5: Careers: Career Prospects, Research, C4dlab, Alumni

The first session took place on Wednesday August 28, 2024 from 2pm to 4pm in the undergraduate lab. 

During the well-attended session that was student-centered, the student raised every type question imaginable via an online tool for such engagement. They were well guided by senior students and faculty on issues such as expectations of new student, balancing student life while on campus, expectation and rigours of the BSc Computer Science Programme, resources available to deliver the programme and  support student learning.

It is expected the students keep the enthusiasm, energy and momentum as they seek to fulfil their ambition of obtaining a quality undergraduate degree.
