Alumni Mentorship and Career Insights Forum

The Mentorship and Career Insights Forum organized by ISACA UON provided practical guidance on transitioning from academic life into the professional world. A key takeaway was that soft skills are just as important as technical skills. While technical knowledge forms the basis of competence, abilities such as communication, teamwork and adaptability are what distinguish individuals in real work environments.

AFRETEC Makerthon 2026 Kicks Off at the University of Nairobi C4DLab

The Makerthon, which runs from 16–20 March 2026, provides a collaborative environment where multidisciplinary student teams rapidly design, prototype and test solutions to real-world challenges. Hosted at the C4DLab innovation hub, the event reflects the University of Nairobi’s commitment to advancing innovation, entrepreneurship and technology-driven problem solving across the continent.

AWS partners with University of Nairobi to advance Cloud Computing skills in Kenya

  • AWS held a three-day cloud computing training at the University of Nairobi, teaching 125 students foundational cloud skills through its Skills Center Community Classroom program.

  • The initiative is part of AWS’s broader push to close the digital skills gap in Africa, with similar programs already running in Cape Town and remote access available continent-wide.

Monday, January 14, 2025: The University of Nairobi’s Department of Computing and Informatics academic committee members met at the department’s PhD lab for a writing workshop. In response to the dynamic field of computing and informatics, the department is developing a postgraduate programme in artificial intelligence planned to be rolled out in September 2025. The MSc in Artificial Intelligence programme is at the core of the University’s Chancellor’s UoN Big 5 agenda on the Nairobi School of AI.

KenyaRe-UoN Hackathon 2024

The Kenya Reinsurance Corporation (KenyaRe) and the University of Nairobi (UoN) conducted an inspiring and successful AI-4-Insurance Hackathon between 25th and 27th September 2024. It was hosted at the KenyaRe Academy at the Reinsurance Plaza. This followed the signing of a collaboration agreement between the UoN and KenyaRE on a number of areas of mutual interest.
