The 63rd University of Nairobi graduation ceremony

The University of Nairobi wishes to inform all students from the Colleges Of Agriculture & Veterinary Sciences, Architecture & Engineering, Biological & Physical Sciences, Education & External Studies and ODeL Campus who qualified for the award of various degrees and diplomas at the end of last academic year (2019/2020) and members of the public, that the 63rd Graduation Ceremony will be held VIRTUALLY on Friday, September 25, 2020, commencing at 8.00 a.m. at the Great Court.

Tech women Program

Gladys Maina wasn’t always going to be a STEM professional. She initially pursued a medical laboratory certificate but realized rather quickly that a career in medic was not for her. She quit and travelled 250Kms to Nairobi where she was hired as a cybercafé assistant and her passion for technology started.

Microsoft Africa Development Center (ADC) Game of Learners Hackathon

Game of Learners is a five-week virtual hackathon developed by the Microsoft Africa Development Center (ADC) to be executed by Microsoft Learn Student Ambassadors.

Two of School of Computing and Informatics students, Sharon Kerubo (Second Year) and Easter Kerubo (Third Year) are among other teams of students taking part in this Episode Hackathon

The program is aimed to establish a fun and experiential learning competition for undergraduate students.

Crowdsource Event

Crowdsource, also known as Google Crowdsource, is a crowdsourcing platform developed by Google intended to improve a host of Google services through the user-facing training of different algorithms. Crowdsource was released for Android on the Google Play store on August 29, 2016, and is also available on the web.

The students downloaded the app and started making contributions which was an amazing thing.

Droughts, with their increasing frequency of occurrence, especially in the Greater Horn of Africa (GHA), continue to negatively affect lives and livelihoods. For example, the 2011 drought in East Africa caused massive losses documented to have cost the Kenyan economy over $12bn.Consequently, the demand is ever-increasing for ex-ante drought early warning systems with not only the ability to offer drought forecasts with sufficient lead times but that are both stable and are of high bias. In this study, we build predictive models one month ahead for both drought severity and drought effects.

TECHNOVATION 2020

Technovataion girls is an international competition for high school girls being run in Kenya by the Safaricom women in tech .It aims at giving high school  girls a platform to showcase their problem-solving skills and to enhance their innovativeness .In teams of about 5,the girls identify a problem in their immediate environment and come up with a mobile-based application that solve  the problem.
